We have an opportunity starting in April 2009 for a couple or individual to work on a private bird preserve in the Kerrville, Texas area. Full hookups (50 amp) with free washer/dryer usage will be provided in return for 20 hours of work per week. The term of the position is three to six months. You will not have to deal with the public. We can provide a very good reference from our current (who is our first) work camper.
The small ranch consists of some farmable land, a flowing stream with a pond and wooded hills. There is no stock on the ranch but wildlife abounds with deer, boar and turkey being a few examples. There are many species of birds, with the thrust of the management plan focused on increasing the numbers and variety. Opportunities for hiking, birding, wildlife viewing, picnicking and relaxing under the large oak trees are inviting. There is a small house on the ranch which is occupied about two months per year by the owners, usually around April and October.
Work duties will include some lawn maintenance, clearing brush and a very small amount of light housekeeping. Other time will be divided among bird counts, nest box maintenance, fire ant control, replenishing feeders and other ranch work. There might be an occasional visiting RV (non-paying guest or owner) but normally you will be on the ranch alone. There are neighbors as near as 100 yards from the site. The setting is private but it is not isolated. Your regular presence on the ranch will provide an element of security, thus we require that you utilize the RV site that we provide. Because of this requirement, we will not issue a 1099 to you for the value of the site.
You must be a self starter as supervision will be quite limited. For the most part, you will be expected to set your own hours and plan your own tasks. It is possible that we could mutually plan reasonable periods for you to be away if you choose.
Located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Kerrville is nine miles from the ranch and boasts full shopping facilities, including a Super WalMart, Lowes, Home Depot, major supermarkets, numerous restaurants, a large medical center as well as a VA hospital.
