Ground Sleeve

The ground sleeve seems to show damage that accumulated after the failure occurred.

Note the large blob of material deposited on the race for the pump gear bushing.

There is an area on the left edge of the race with additional built up material.

The ground sleeve brings up an interesting question. If the pump gear bushing exits the inner pump gear, there would seem to be nothing to hold this gear centered.

That being the case, would the pump gears lock up and cease to turn? Would the bent tangs knock the inner gear around rather than keep it centered?

Again, closeups of the built up material on the edge of the race.

What might have caused this?
